What is the difference between high-density foam and high-resilience foam?

The method of distinguishing foam in the industry is based on density, measured in KG/M3, which represents the weight of the foam per cubic meter. Commonly used foams are classified into three types: high-density foam, medium-density foam, and low-density foam, based on their structure. High-density foam has many pores, is full, and is often used for materials such as sound-absorbing cotton, sofa cushions, and soft packaging.

High-resilience foam, on the other hand, typically uses polyether polyols with EO termination. Polyether has high activity, resulting in foam with a mixture of different pore diameters and varying skeleton thickness. It has a high open-cell ratio and generates different rebound forces in various deformation states when compressed. It possesses superb resilience and breathability, low hysteresis loss, a higher compression load ratio, and good flame resistance. It also exhibits good performance in thermal aging, wet aging, and dynamic fatigue.

There are three main differences: structural characteristics, applications, and principles.

Structural Characteristics:

High-density foam: The foam has high density, small internal voids, and a greater mass.

High-resilience foam: It has excellent resilience and breathability, low hysteresis loss, a higher compression load ratio, and good flame resistance. The foam has a diverse distribution of pore diameters and varying skeleton thickness.

Applications:

High-density foam: Used for sound-absorbing cotton, soft packaging materials, and health products.

High-resilience foam: Used for car seats, furniture, sofas, and bedding.

Principles:

High-density foam: The weight per cubic meter is over 25 kilograms, indicating high density and hardness.

High-resilience foam: Typically utilizes EO termination in the production of foam, resulting in a foam structure with varying pore diameters, skeleton thickness, and a high open-cell ratio.
